CAG Member Criteria for 2025 Application

1. Professional Experience & Expertise

  • Minimum Years of Experience: Candidates should have at least 6-10 years of professional experience in their specific area of expertise.
  • Notable Career Accomplishments: Evidence of leadership roles or significant contributions to relevant projects, organizations, or initiatives.
  • Specialized Knowledge: A deep understanding of one or more of the listed areas (e.g., Business & Economic Development, Sustainability, Sports & Recreation, etc.).

2. Relevance to Specific Areas

Candidates should demonstrate experience or expertise in at least one of the following areas:

  • Business and Economic Development
    • Experience in urban development, economic planning, and strategy.
    • Knowledge of business growth, market trends, and investment strategies.
    • Involvement in large-scale economic or infrastructure projects.
    • Experience leading an organization that represents the business community such as a BIA, Board of Trade, or Chamber of Commerce
  • Sports and Recreation
    • Expertise in managing or developing sports programs, facilities, or leagues.
    • Experience with major sporting events or recreation-driven community initiatives.
    • Knowledge of trends in sports and recreation, particularly within large, public spaces.
  • Community Impact and Communications
    • Experience fostering growth and development within communities and facilitating cooperation among various stakeholders, such as residents, local businesses, and government entities.
    • Experience working with local or regional community organizations, focusing on engagement, support, and advocacy.
    • Applied skills in conducting research to assess community needs and impacts and using this data to guide decision-making and strategic planning for community development initiatives.
  • Culture, Events, and Festivals
    • Extensive experience organizing, curating, or managing cultural events, festivals, or public programming.
    • Proven track record in partnership building with artists, performers, cultural institutions, or sponsors.
    • Knowledge of cultural tourism and trends in event management.
  • Park Stewardship, Sustainability, and Environmental Education
    • Background in environmental conservation, sustainability practices, and park management.
    • Involvement in stewardship programs, environmental education, or sustainable design and development.
    • Knowledge of local environmental issues and best practices in park and green space management.
  • Educational Institutions

    • Leadership or advisory roles within educational organizations or institutions.
    • Experience in curriculum development, educational policy, or student engagement.
    • Understanding of the role of education in community building and cultural enrichment.
  • Youth Representative
    • Youth Engagement: Demonstrates a commitment to engaging with other youth in the neighbourhood, consulting with peers, and gathering input on issues that matter to them.
    • Long-Term Vision for Youth in the Neighbourhood: Brings a forward-thinking approach to creating sustainable, equitable, and inclusive opportunities for youth in Hastings-Sunrise.
    • Active Participation: Willingness to attend regular advisory meetings, contribute thoughtful input on key issues that impact youth, and represent the needs of the youth community effectively.
  • Neighbour-at-Large
    • Knowledge of the diverse needs and perspectives of residents who are not affiliated with specific organizations or agencies but who contribute to the broader neighbourhood experience.
    • Experience advocating for the interests of a broad cross-section of the community, ensuring that the voices of residents, including those not traditionally represented, are heard and considered in planning processes.
    • Ability to engage with a wide range of community members, including those who may not typically participate in formal decision-making bodies, and effectively communicate the community’s needs to advisory processes.
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Representative
    • Understanding of diverse communities and experience in advocating for their needs.
    • Strong dedication to promoting fairness, equity, and addressing systemic disparities.
    • Skilled in listening, articulating DEI issues, and ensuring follow-through on DEI goals with integrity.

3. Demonstrated Leadership and Impact

  • Leadership Roles: Candidates have held senior positions such as executive, director, or subject matter expert roles in their area of expertise.
  • Project Leadership: Experience leading complex projects or initiatives that had a significant impact on their community or sector.
  • Recognized Industry Contributions: Proven contributions to their field through publications, speaking engagements, awards, or other forms of recognition.

4. Collaborative & Strategic Thinking

  • Ability to Collaborate: Must demonstrate experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders (public sector, private sector, community organizations).
  • Strategic Insight: Ability to provide high-level strategic advice, balancing short-term needs with long-term goals and community interests.
  • Advisory Experience: Past experience serving on advisory boards, panels, or committees for local governments, NGOs, or private entities.

  • Community-Oriented Mindset: Demonstrates a strong commitment to improving public spaces, services, or community initiatives.

  • Educational Background: Degrees or certifications relevant to the specific areas (e.g., Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Business Administration, Sports Management, Cultural Studies, etc.).
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Ability to identify challenges and propose innovative solutions for public policy, development, and community issues.

8. Willingness to Contribute and Time Commitment

  • Advisory Commitment: Willingness to participate actively in meetings and provide thoughtful input on key plans and projects, including the Hastings Park Master Plan.
  • Time Availability: Availability to dedicate time to regular advisory meetings, which take place 5-6 times per year.

These criteria aim to ensure that members of the advisory group bring a high level of expertise, experience, and a broad perspective to contribute to the decision-making processes that impact Hastings Park/PNE and the surrounding community.
